How to extract text from a PDF
- Choose a PDF.
- Choose whether to mark where each page starts.
- Select Extract text, then copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Good to know
- Only text that is stored as text in the PDF can be extracted. Line breaks and paragraphs are rebuilt, but columns, tables and formatting are not kept.
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages. Extracting their text needs OCR (text recognition), which Filecon doesn't offer yet.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your browser does the work on your device. Your document is not sent to Filecon's servers.
How can I tell if my PDF is scanned?
Try selecting a word in your PDF viewer. If you can't select individual words, the page is an image and needs OCR.
Why won't my PDF open?
Password-protected or locked PDFs can't be opened. Remove the protection in the app you normally use, then try again.
